“The
legend of continuity” tells that if you set your clock
after nature’s will and if you spend one night in one
of the two mills Îndărătnica, while the mill grinds
to no avail, you wake up younger in the morning, as
the wheel of the mill grinds the time back. In the “Svinecea
legend” they say that a long time ago, at the Roşoanea
mill, close to the “Sânziene” night, when good and bad
spirits come among human, it was grinding a beautiful
girl, and an old man that was passing through there
had turned into a werewolf due to a cursed coin, he
raped her after which he killed her. The legend tells
that the good fairy was climbing down the valley and
seeing so much hate, she had transformed the elder one
into a wolf, cursing him with these words: “you shall
not become a man until you can dig with your claws and
your teeth under the rock you are sitting on a tunnel
at whose end you must build a mill to which you will
never have access to.” On the side of the river where
this had happened, a rocky place has remained untouched
forever. The parents of the girls, in their search for
her, have died frozen on the cliffs of Rudăria; in the
spring, in the place where the two have climbed,
the Adam and Eve rocks have appeared, two of the most
beautiful rocks in Banat.
As a part of the longhistory
legends, there are also "weird sayings" nowadays related
to mills. Therefore, at the Tunel mill, 30 years ago,
the priest had come to remove bad spirits. Ever since
four goats have accidentally locked themselves in, being
found 5 days later in the best shape possible, in that
place at night all sorts of noises could be heard, party
screams, women's voices, violins and trumpets, horse's
clatter, and other music. Nobody dared to grind at that
mill. Another story tells us that one person, after
filling his bag with flour from the Îndărătnica mill
(whose wheel spins counter-clockwise), had left home,
where he found the beans untouched, therefore raising
suspicion to his wife, which had suspected that her
husband hadn't even visited the mill. |
